Our Flag

Further news regarding the flag designed by the school. The flag has been chosen to fly at the celebratory event to mark the 800th anniversary of the sealing of Magna Carta, at Runnymede. The Duke of Cambridge looked at small number of flags that were selected, and we are pleased to say that our schools flag was one of these. MP Owen Smith will be coming to present the flag to school on 17th July at 10am.

We have been busy!

We have had many many meetings over the last year and we will updating our blog with all the things that we discussed very soon.

We would like to share with you a fantastic achievement for our school council.

We entered a competition to design a flag that represented our community and we were very excited to find out that we were one of the 80 picked!

Here we are with the flag we designed to represent our local community, one of 80 flags currently flying in Parliament Square, London!

We would like to thank Terry Mann from GTFM for all the mentions he gave us and that it delighted staff, parents and grandparents alike.

RCT Environmental Services

RCT Environmental Services have asked the School Council if they have any issues with the local area.  The Council are willing to help and would like to ask the local community if there are any environmental issues you would like the School Council to raise on your behalf.  Any concerns can be put in writing and addressed to the School Council and it will be discussed with Environmental Services.

An update of what we have been up to recently!

 Dogs Mess Posters

We have designed posters to encourage people in the surrounding area to clean up after their dogs.  The posters should be put up in the next few weeks. We are trying to make people aware of the dangers of leaving their dog mess on the ground and hope our posters will encourage them to pick it up.

Football Nets

The boys in the juniors will be spending some of the school council budget to buy football nets in the yard.  It is hoped they will be here in time for a change in the weather.

Healthy Menu

We have been asked to create a Healthy Menu for the school.  The food that is chosen will be cooked and served to the children who have dinners.

We met the Mayor!

On Thursday 12^th June our school council went to the Municipal building to visit Mr. Doug Williams the Mayor of RCT and his wife. They were very nice and answered all our questions. Mr Williams has been Mayor for a year; he was elected by councillors on 21^st May 2012. He has lived in Rhydyfelin and Glyncoch and wanted to become Mayor because he cares about the people living in Pontypridd. He supports and raises money for a cystic fibrosis charity, a prostrate cancer charity and the CRY charity (heart disease in the young). He has met a lot of people during his time as Mayor including Prince Charles and Camilla, Desmond Tutu, Nelson Mandela, the Duke of Kent, the countess of Wessex and the Queen, he actually went to the Queens garden party! but his favourite part of being Mayor is meeting and talking to children. He said although being Mayor has been hard work he has really enjoyed it and wishes it could last longer. He would like to change a lot about Pontypridd town centre but said it is difficult to get funding to achieve what he would like to achieve. We also visited Mr. Williams’s chambers and when we finished asking our questions we had orange juice and biscuits. We really enjoyed ourselves and thought Mr. Williams and his wife were very nice. 

Games for wet play

March 2013

The School Council have been asked by the children in Years 1,2,3 and 4 if they could have some new wet play games.  After consulting with the children and their teachers, the council have ordered games out of the School Council budget.  The games should be in delivered during April 2013.

Posters for Dog Fouling

The children and parents have expressed their concerns about the amount of dog fouling that is present in the local community.  The School Council are currently making posters to go outside on the school gates to encourage people to clean up after their dog.
